Binghamton-6 rebounded well Friday night at the Keeler Gym, coming back from first- and third-quarter deficits to beat Maine-Endwell Blue-6, 53-52. Binghamton got a small dose of revenge, having lost to this M-E team in a preseason tournament by 2 points.
The win put Binghamton-6's overall record at 14-11. The blue squad is 7-2 in its last 9 games.
Three Binghamton players scored in double-digits, while four had excellent outings on the boards for blue.
With his co-captain Devin Young watching from the bench with his foot injury, sidelined until the home tournament February 18-19-20, Casey Walsh scored a team-high 16 points, most of which came on slashing drives to the basket. Walsh added 8 rebounds in the second consecutive standout performance for the 6th-grade point guard.
Fifth-grade big man Brandon Sprouse had an excellent game in the paint Friday against a couple very large M-E 6th-grade centers, helping to get them both in early foul trouble, and scoring 12 points and ripping down 16 rebounds.
Another 5th-grader, Jordan McGahy, pressed into more playing time by Young's injury, responded with flying colors, turning in his best game of his travel ball career. McGahy was aggressive in the low post against M-E, to the tune of 10 points and 8 rebounds.
And 6th-grader Matt Collins-Pringle, who was not present for Thursday's loss to CV-Red, was a dynamo on the glass Friday, grabbing 20 rebounds (15 of which came in the first half). Collins-Pringle added 6 points to his effort, along with 3 steals.

One More Reason to Love Landry Fields
New York Knicks rookie Landry Fields has been more than a pleasant surprise this year. With the additions of Amare Stoudemire and Ray Felton, Fields earned a starting spot at Madison Square Garden, straight out of training camp.
After 51 games, the Knicks are poised to make the playoffs for the first time in ... well, no one can remember. That's how long it's been.
In those games, Fields is averaging 10 points, 7.2 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal per game. He's shooting 51 percent from the floor and 77% from the foul line.
He's also become the glue on the team ... a fantastic team player, being compared by one Knicks executive to a young John Havlicek (you young guys, click on this link to learn more about Havlicek ... a Hall of Famer who won 8 NBA titles with the Celtics).

Binghamton 7/8s Beat Corning in Overtime
The Binghamton-based group of 7/8 traveled west again this week, Wednesday heading to Corning. In a game that saw seven lead changes, Binghamton emerged with a 58-54 overtime win.
Binghamton was plagued by turnovers and several missed shots after offensive rebounds. They had five players in double-digits in rebounds, and another with 9 rebounds.
Binghamton built an early 12-6 lead, then saw Corning go on an 18-3 run through midway into the second quarter. Binghamton came back, though, tying the game at 34-apiece in the third, eventually taking the lead (46-44) with about 6 minutes to play in regulation. Binghamton held a 50-47 edge late, but one of eight Corning 3-pointers on the night tied it and eventually led to overtime.
In the three-minute OT, Roberto Jensen opened the scoring with a 3-pointer (53-50). After Corning hit 1-of-2 free throws (53-51), Nicky Snyder scored on a strong inside move (55-51) Corning came back down the floor, though, and hit another 3-pointer (55-54) just before Isiah Turner scored on the inside on a nice pass from Snyder (57-54). Binghamton made a couple strong defensive stops, and Corning missed three free throws with under 1:30 to play.
After a missed Corning shot with 12.7 seconds to go, Snyder was fouled after he controlled aa rebound. He hit the first of his two free throws (58-54) to secure the win.

Binghamton-6 Gets Gritty Road Win
The Binghamton-6 squad fought through a physical first half at Newark Valley Tuesday night, erasing an early 7-2 deficit with hard-nosed defense and a season-best performance from Alonzo Brunn (13 of his career-high 17 points in the first half) to build a 30-16 halftime lead, then cruise to a 51-34 win.
Brunn recorded his first double-double Tuesday, adding 11 rebounds, continuing his standout improvement this winter. Devin Young scored a team-high 20 points, adding a double-double of his own with 14 rebounds. He just missed a triple double, with 9 steals. Meanwhile underneath, 5th-grader Brandon Sprouse handled Newark Valley's big men ably, ripping down 16 rebounds despite being knocked to the floor several times. Sprouse added 6 points in the win.
Matt Collins-Pringle and Casey Walsh also provided solid defensive outings, despite both getting into first-half foul trouble. They combined for 9 steals, and 4th-grader Gabe Whiteman turned in a whirlwind defensive effort, containing NV's quick point guard all night - Whiteman had 5 steals of his own, but that was only part of the story, as he stopped drives consistently, his harassment also causing several NV turnovers.
Binghamton had 20 steals in the first half alone, adding 11 more after the break.

Binghamton-6 Comes Back to Top SCC-6
The Binghamton-6 travel team got off to a sluggish start Sunday at Seton Catholic High, but the team began to convert its fast-break opportunities in the second quarter to take a 2-point halftime lead. Binghamton continued to run in the second half to put this game in the W column with a 56-39 victory over Seton Catholic-6.
Binghamton has gone 5-1 in its last six games, improving the team's overall season record to 12-10.
SCC led 12-6 after the first quarter, but Binghamton's Alonzo Brunn scored 8 of his 14 points in the first half to help the blue squad take a 23-21 halftime lead. Matt Collins-Pringle scored his 4 points in that second-quarter surge, as well.

Binghamton 7/8s Top Homer
The Binghamton-based 7/8 group hosted Homer 7/8 Saturday afternoon at the downtown YMCA. Binghamton built a quick 8-0 lead with its inside-outside game, then continued to surge for three quarters, winning 75-30.
Binghamton's held a 20-8 lead, with Roberto Jensen and Kyeem Holmes hitting from the outside, Nicky Snyder, Dan Jeffrey and Trevor Borchardt scoring in the paint.
Binghamton went on an 18-2 run in the second quarter to lead 40-17 at halftime. In the third quarter, Binghamton outscored Homer 23-4 to lead 63-21 heading into the fourth.

Binghamton-6, playing just its second game in two weeks, got a nice win against visiting Chanengo Forks White-6 at the Binghamton Psych Center's Keeler gym Friday night, 64-47. Binghamton weas led by Devin Young, who scored 22 points and had 11 rebounds. Young had 7 steals and 4 assists.

7/8s Tops Endicott; Doski Has Monster Game
The Binghamton-based 7/8 squad braved the weather Tuesday evening for a rematch with the Endicott 7/8s at St. Ambrose.
The last time these teams squared off, Binghamton faced early 11-0 and 17-4 deficits before climbing back into it, eventually winning 44-38.
Binghamton had a much better start Tuesday night, taking an 11-2 lead midway through the first quarter and leading 15-7 after the first quarter. Endicott countered, though, with a second-quarter surge, and the game was tied 24-24 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Binghamton went on a 15-2 run to build a 41-26 lead, and outscored Endicott in that quarter, 20-5, proving to be the difference.
