Bolts Play in Tough Elmira Shootout
Two BC Bolts teams played in this past weekend's Elmira Shootout, where, for a relatively small tournament, the competition was very solid. The 9s played teams from Elmira, Rochester and Syracuse, while the 7s played Rochester, Scranton, Syracuse and Waverly teams.
The 9s were slightly short-handed from the regular roster, but despite all four of their games being close midway through the second halves, they didn't get a win in the tourney, a first for this AAU season. The 7s won their first two games, lost one by a point at the buzzer, and were outmatched by Syracuse Select.

BC Bolts Teams Play in Liverpool Championships
On the weekend of April 21, both BC Bolts teams (the 7th and 9th graders) went 3-0 en route to tournament championship games. Both teams faced solid Anaconda teams (Schenectady) and lost in the finals, giving the Bolts an overall 6-2 record for the weekend tournament outside Syracuse.
The freshman Bolts made a solid run at a very big, athletic Anaconda Green squad in their championship. Trailing by 17 at halftime, the Bolts cut the decifit to 3 points on two different occasions down the stretch, but couldn't quite turn the corner.

The B.C. Bolts went a combined 5-1 in the Sidney Fools Rush Tournament this past weekend, with the 7th-graders winning their second championship in four tournaments. Their season record is now 11-4. Bolts go 5-2 at Hartwick/Oneonta Tourney
The BC Bolts went a combined 5-2 in the one-day (Saturday) Hartwick/Oneonta "Hoop Mountain Tournament" this past weekend.
The 9s went 3-0, and won two thrilling games. The team struggled for much of the second game, then caught fire midway through the second half to turn a 28-33 deficit into a 43-35 lead in a short span. They eventually won that game 46-40.
In their third game, they fell behind 8-0 and trailed by 12 points midway through the second half before staging a gutsy comeback, sending the game into overtime, where they won it, 62-58.
The BC Bolts 7s went 2-2. Their losses game to a Seton Catholic team that played two 8th-graders (both of whom played JV this winter at SCC), by the score of 70-67, and in the fourth game to a solid Oneonta team, 61-50, after leading by 2 points at halftime.

Remaining Schedule, and More ...
The following is the remaining schedule for the Binghamton Travel teams for the 2012-2013 regular season:
* CANCELED (will not be re-scheduled) Friday, February 8 - Red vs. M-E, 6 p.m. at Keeler Gym
* Wednesday, February 13 - Blue vs. JC, 7:15 p.m. at JC YMCA

A selected 6 team will play in the upcoming Slim Sylvester League Tournament the weekends of February 16-17 and February 23-24. That team's schedule:
* 9 a.m. Sunday, February 17 vs. M-E at All Saint's in Endicott
* 11:20 a.m. Sunday, February 17 vs. St. Joe's at All Saint's in Endicott
(Sunday, February 24 - two more games, schedule will depend on February 17's results.)

There are two other tournaments available for our players. Because there are so many different basketball ventures under way for the springtime, someone would need to step forward to take a 5th-grade team to a Homer Tournament (March 16) ... or a 5th OR a 6th-grade team to a Cortland Tournament (March 2). Both of these are solid tourneys. Our program is defending champions at the Homer Tournament, and we were runner-up, losing a close championship game at the Cortland tourney.

Congratulations to 7 of our Travel Basketball players, who have been selected to play for Southern Tier Rage teams during the spring AAU season.
Binghamton Travel players Devon Herman, Brandon Sterling and Jamique Duggins secured 3 of the 10 roster spots available for the Rage 6 team this year. Gabriel Whiteman, now of Vestal, and who we still consider one of ours since he played for Binghamton three seasons before transferring schools last year, occupies a 4th roster spot for the Rage 6s.
Binghamton Travel players Joshua Duggins, Enzo D'Alessando and Alex Creagh accepted three of 10 available roster spots on the Southern Tier Rage 4/5 team.

In other AAU news, 6th-graders Vito Ferranti and Kobe Bogart will play up with a new 7th-grade club called the B.C. Bolts. Former Binghamton Travel players Sam Zahka-Stern and Gracie Jensen are also members of the Bolts, and former Binghamton Travel player Jordan McGahy plans to play some tournaments for the Bolts, splitting time on this AAU team and his other Binghamton-based AAU group, coached by Pat Van Putte. CYO all-star and West Middle 7th-grader Nick Nieves will also play for the B.C. Bolts this spring.
Playing for Coach Van Putte's group in the spring AAU season are the following former Binghamton Travel players: Jordan McGahy, Brandon Sprouse, Pat Van Putte, Devin Tyler, Jaylin Ragsdale and Jalil Butts.
Former Binghamton Travel player Devin Young will re-join his Rage 8 team this year, coached by Mark Meier.

AAU Rage Tryouts This Weekend and Next
Just a heads up that the Rage AAU program will hold its tryouts for players
in grades 4-7 this weekend, and for players in 8/9 NEXT weekend.
All these sessions will be held at the Highland Park Gym in Endicott.
It will be conducted as a "skills session," and players must pay $10 to
attend the sessions.
Here is the schedule for tryouts:
* Sunday, February 3 - 10 to 11:45 a.m. for boys in 4th and 5th
grades
* Sunday, February 3 - 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for boys in 6th and 7th
grades
* Sunday, February 10 - 10 a.m. to noon for boys in 8th and 9th
grades
