The following is the remaining schedule for the Binghamton Travel teams for the 2012-2013 regular season:

* CANCELED (will not be re-scheduled) Friday, February 8 - Red vs. M-E, 6 p.m. at Keeler Gym
* Wednesday, February 13 - Blue vs. JC, 7:15 p.m. at JC YMCA

A selected 6 team will play in the upcoming Slim Sylvester League Tournament the weekends of February 16-17 and February 23-24. That team's schedule:
* 9 a.m. Sunday, February 17 vs. M-E at All Saint's in Endicott
* 11:20 a.m. Sunday, February 17 vs. St. Joe's at All Saint's in Endicott
(Sunday, February 24 - two more games, schedule will depend on February 17's results.)

There are two other tournaments available for our players. Because there are so many different basketball ventures under way for the springtime, someone would need to step forward to take a 5th-grade team to a Homer Tournament (March 16) ... or a 5th OR a 6th-grade team to a Cortland Tournament (March 2). Both of these are solid tourneys. Our program is defending champions at the Homer Tournament, and we were runner-up, losing a close championship game at the Cortland tourney.

Congratulations to 7 of our Travel Basketball players, who have been selected to play for Southern Tier Rage teams during the spring AAU season.

Binghamton Travel players Devon Herman, Brandon Sterling and Jamique Duggins secured 3 of the 10 roster spots available for the Rage 6 team this year. Gabriel Whiteman, now of Vestal, and who we still consider one of ours since he played for Binghamton three seasons before transferring schools last year, occupies a 4th roster spot for the Rage 6s.

Binghamton Travel players Joshua Duggins, Enzo D'Alessando and Alex Creagh accepted three of 10 available roster spots on the Southern Tier Rage 4/5 team.

In other AAU news, 6th-graders Vito Ferranti and Kobe Bogart will play up with a new 7th-grade club called the B.C. Bolts. Former Binghamton Travel players Sam Zahka-Stern and Gracie Jensen are also members of the Bolts, and former Binghamton Travel player Jordan McGahy plans to play some tournaments for the Bolts, splitting time on this AAU team and his other Binghamton-based AAU group, coached by Pat Van Putte. CYO all-star and West Middle 7th-grader Nick Nieves will also play for the B.C. Bolts this spring.

Playing for Coach Van Putte's group in the spring AAU season are the following former Binghamton Travel players: Jordan McGahy, Brandon Sprouse, Pat Van Putte, Devin Tyler, Jaylin Ragsdale and Jalil Butts.

Former Binghamton Travel player Devin Young will re-join his Rage 8 team this year, coached by Mark Meier.

AAU Rage Tryouts This Weekend and Next

Just a heads up that the Rage AAU program will hold its tryouts for players in grades 4-7 this weekend, and for players in 8/9 NEXT weekend.

 

All these sessions will be held at the Highland Park Gym in Endicott.

 

It will be conducted as a "skills session," and players must pay $10 to attend the sessions.

 

Here is the schedule for tryouts:

* Sunday, February 3 - 10 to 11:45 a.m. for boys in 4th and 5th grades

* Sunday, February 3 - 11:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for boys in 6th and 7th grades

* Sunday, February 10 - 10 a.m. to noon for boys in 8th and 9th grades

Red Tops Endicott at Keeler

Binghamton Red built a 42-29 halftime lead over Endicott-6 Monday night at Keeler, led 68-44 after three quarters, then cruised to an 80-69 win. Red had four players score in double-digits, led by Kobe Bogart's double-double (27 points, 13 rebounds).

Tourney Win in Cortland

A combined group of Susquehanna Valley girls and Binghamton boys went to Cortland this weekend and came home 3-0 and winners of the YMCA Ballers' MLK Tournament. The team, wearing Binghamton West jerseys, beat East Syracuse Minoa twice and the host Cortland Ballers once to capture the title.

In the past week, our teams have played 4 games - two league matchups and two scrimmages in Cortland with The Ballers

In Cortland on Saturday, a team of 5/6s played a Cortland team that had 5/6s and a 7th-grader who played in the fourth quarter. That game ended in a 58-58 tie after two overtime sessions. The second game in Cortland, with 7-8-9s, saw The Ballers won a close game, 68-64.

In the Travel League, Binghamton Blue lost to a very strong Owego team last Wednesday at the Johnson City YMCA, 49-23. On Sunday, Binghamton White fell behind early to Seton Catholic, then mounted a solid, late comeback that fell just short. White lost to SCC, 41-38.

Binghamton Red Edges Vestal

Binghamton Red got 38 points from Kobe Bogart, with 10 more coming from Rylie Greenman, and a flu-ridden Vito Ferranti played just enough second-half minutes to help hold off a Vestal squad, 52-51, Monday night at Keeler Gym.

Vestal was led by former Binghamton Travel player Gabe Whiteman (game-high 19 points for the Golden Bears). Devon Herman added the additional 4 points for Binghamton Red.

White Tops BBGC on Saturday

UPCOMING SCHEDULE

The Binghamton White travel team played a Saturday morning game at the Binghamton Boys & Girls Club and came away with a 55-35 win. The game was tied 20-20 at halftime, and White put together a very strong third quarter to lead 37-31 heading into the fourth, during which the team pulled away, outscoring BBGC 18-4.
