It's time!

Time to get back into basketball, so here's what's happening:

1. YMCA Rec Leagues: Remember, the YMCA Recreational Leagues are about to start again, and the deadline for those sign-ups is this Saturday - September 26. You can sign up for various age groups (7-8, 9-10 and 11-14) and the league fee is $36 for YMCA members, $72 for non-members. You can register at the downtown Binghamton Y, or at te West End Y in Johnson City.
.
2. Saturday Morning Scrimmages/Workouts: We have the OK to start using the downtown Binghamton YMCA gym on Saturday mornings for our officiated, loosely coached scrimmages/workouts. Our first session will be 8 to 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 3. These workouts are highly recommended for those student/athletes planning to try out for the Binghamton Travel Basketball teams (we expect to have two this season).

Student/athletes ranging from grades 4 through 7 are invited to attend.

3. About Binghamton Travel Basketball for 2009-2010: Again, we plan to have two teams this season, and early indications are that our teams will be largely comprised of 5th- and 6th-graders. Of course, there may be a roster slot available for a younger player who exhibits the ability to play at a higher level.

If there is any interest in having a third team comprised of younger players (perhaps a 3rd/4th squad) please get in touch with me as soon as possible.

There will be a tryout for all our travels teams. A tryout date has not yet been set.

4. Tune-up Tournament: The Binghamton YMCA and the Binghamton Travel Teams will host a tune-up tournament for teams playing in the Slim Sylvester League. The tournament is scheduled for Sunday, November 8 and all games will be played at the downtown Binghamton YMCA. Twelve teams participated in last year's tournament, and it looks like this year's tourney will have the same number of openings.

5. Slim Sylvester Kick-off Tournament: This is the season-opening tournament for league play. This year's tournament, to be held again at Johnson City's elementary/middle school complex, will be helf Saturday, November 21.
