Binghamton-6 Splits Again

On Day 2 of the Johnson City Holiday Classic, Binghamton-6 split its two games for a second straight day.

In its first game, playing against one of the top teams in the Slim Sylvester League this season, Binghamton lost 61-24. But in the first half, Binghamton scrapped its way to a 23-16 deficit at halftime - a very solid showing. JC's size on the interior, and team depth, eventually wore Binghamton down as JC walked away with the win.

Binghamton then faced Chenango Valley-6 and built a 22-12 lead at the half before wining the contest 40-28.

CV scored first to open the second half, but Binghamton got baskets from Gabriel Whiteman and Brandon Sprouse, and two buckets from Devin Young, to lead 30-14. CV cut the lead to 9 points (at 37-28) but that was the closest they would get.

Devin Young led Binghamton with 16 points, 11 rebounds and 6 steals, while Brandon Sprouse chipped in a strong 12 points and 9 boards, despite picking up his third foul at the end of the first half. But it was Casey Walsh who provided the glue in this victory. Walsh scored just 5 points, but he collected a team-high 12 rebounds, a season-high 7 assists and a very pesky 5 steals before fouling out with under a minute to play.

Binghamton-6 Splits at Holiday Classic

The Binghamton-6 team played two close contests Friday night as part of the Johnson City Holiday Classic.

In the first game, Binghamton held a 20-15 halftime lead over Susquehanna Valley. By midway through the second half, Binghamton led 30-23. Two Gabe Whiteman free throws made it 32-23, and soon after, an Alonzo Brunn hoop put Binghamton ahead 35-25.

SV then went on a 10-0 run, as Binghamton committed several turnovers against SV's press. But with 10 seconds remaining, Binghamton's Brandon Sprouse hit an inside shot from the right side and was fouled. His free throw was off, but SV couldn't get a shot off as time ran out. Binghamton won it 37-35.

In the second game, Binghamton struggled to box out a handful of Owego big inside players, eventually losing to Owego, 43-41.

Binghamton looked to have control of this game in the first half, leading 16-9 at one point, after an Ismar Turkovic inside putback. Casey Walsh had 8 points and 5 assists in the first half, leading Binghamton to a 26-22 lead at the break. In the second half, though, Binghamton struggled to get shots to fall, especially at the free throw line.
