White's top scorers were Gabe Whiteman (13 points), Brandon Sprouse (12) and Tyshawn High (11). Sprouse and High combined for 18 rebounds.

In the second game of a doubleheader, Binghamton Black came from 10 points down at halftime, getting a buzzer-beating rebound and put-back from Wyatt Merta to knot the score at 34-34. After playing two games, Vestal's coaches opted to end the contest in a tie, rather than playing an overtime period.

In that contest, Vito Ferranti led Binghamton with 14 points, while Manny Scott put together a monster of a game, scoring 8 points, pulling down a season-high (for anyone, any team in the Binghamton program) 22 rebounds, blocking 6 shots, making 5 steals and dishing out 3 assists.

One-Day "Shoot The Lights Out" Session

There will be a one-day "Shoot The Lights Out" pre-season session from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, November 6, at Owego Free Academy.

The session is for boys and girls, grades 3 through 10, and is a fund-raiser to help restore the Tioga Theater, damaged in the Flood of 2011. Cost is $30 in advance, $40 day-of. (All proceeds go to the Tioga Theater.)

The session will be offered by Bill Hopkins, and will be hosted by OFA boys head coach Chris Evans.

I've sent my kids (Roberto and Gracie) to the "Shoot The Lights Out" camp the last two summers at OFA with coaches Hopkins and Evans, and I cannot say enough good things about their camps. The timing, too, is perfect, as it will help propel the kids into basketball season with reminders an refreshers on excellent shooting technique(s).

If you have not received the e-mail from me with the attachment/flier for the "camp" and would like to, please send me an e-mail at jensens@oacsd.org and I'll get one to you right away.

To learn more, here, too, is the "Shoot The Lights Out" Web address: www.shootlightsout.com

Travel Basketball Tryouts October 22

Tryouts for Binghamton Travel basketball will be held:

* 3 to 5 p.m. Saturday, October 22, at the downtown Binghamton YMCA
* Tryouts are for students in Grades 3 through 6 (boys and girls may try out)
* Those interested in trying out should arrive early to register at the desk outside the gym
* At that time, we will need contact information for parents or guardians (cell phone numbers, e-mail addresses)

* Note: There is no fee for trying out on October 22.

****However, for those who make the team(s), there will be a player fee to help cover costs of gym rental this season, as well as the entry fee for the travel league (that total has not yet been determined, but will likely be in the $20-25 range, per player).

****Each player will also be asked to pay for their uniform, which they will keep. The uniforms we're looking at this year are reversible jerseys and shorts, with the Binghamton Basketball logo on the front of the jerseys, players' name and choice of their number on the back. The price for the uniforms we're looking at is $55.

****That means that the total price for the program, per player, this year will be approximately $75-$80.

Our Summer Scrimmages concluded Saturday (September 2) with a strong showing of 16 players, ranging in grade level from 3 up to 9. Over the final two weeks of August, there were 13 scrimmages at various sites, with 213 total players (some were the same, over the sessions) attending, for an average of about 17 players per scrimmage.

The sessions were conducted free of charge. Players from the following nine area school districts particpated: Binghamton, Susquehanna Valley, Whitney Point, Chenango Forks, Greene, Candor, Chenango Valley, Seton Catholic (St. James) and Vestal.

Check out photos from a few of the scrimmages, below.

Thanks to everyone for attending, for bringing the kids, and for your support. Thanks, also, to our referees who volunteered their time over the two-week span (Gary Alapeck, Paul McDonald, Scott Harrington, Pat Van Putte and Brook Gaster).
