The Rage 7s got three wins, going undefeated in Saturday's one-day Southern Tier Showdown at the Binghamton University Events Center. Rage started the day playing against the other Rage (Lopez) 7th-grade team and got a 50-41 win. In its second game, Rage squeaked out a 51-50 win over the STNY Flyers (Maine-Endwell), then finished the day with a 55-35 win over the Norwich.
Rage held 1-point halftime leads in all three contests.
Game 1
Rage (Jensen) 50, Rage (Lopez) 41
Rage-J -- 24 - 26 -- 50
Rage-L -- 23 - 18 -- 41
Our Rage 7s found themselves in an early 5-0 hole and trailed 12-7 midway through the first half, in large part due to the Rage (Lopez) team's quick half-court zone press.
But Rage (J) took its first lead at 13-12 after baskets by Jake Thompson (12 points, 10 rebounds), Trevor Borchardt (game-high 14 points, game-high 14 rebounds) and Wyatt Whitmore (8 points, 8 rebounds). Borchardt's inside bucket and two free throws that came shortly afterward gave Rage (J) a 17-12 lead. Joey Miranda scored Rage (J)'s last two field goals of the first half to lead 24-23.
Thompson exploded in the second half, scoring 9 of his 12 points and grabbing 7 of his 10 rebounds. A strong Rage (J) 12-5 run gave them a 37-28 lead midway through the second half, but Rage (L) made a nice run to cut the lead to 41-40 before Caleb Link's field goal made it 43-40.
Thompson scored 5 points in the final minute-plus to secure the victory.

Game 2
Rage 51, STNY Flyers (M-E) 50
Rage --- 28 - 23 -- 51
STNY -- 27 - 23 -- 50
Rage escaped with a narrow win here, Joey Miranda's free throw with 29 seconds remaining giving the team the final margin of victory. Greene schoolmates Luke Day and Miranda combined on the clinching play, as guard Day drove the lane and dished to Miranda underneath, where he was fouled while shooting. He hit the first foul shot to make it 51-50.
M-E put the ball in the hands of its top player, Drew Gallagher (game-high 24 points), who drove the lane but was met by Miranda, who stepped in to stop the drive. Miranda got both hands on the basketball, and the disruption was just enough to throw off M-E's attempt at a winning shot as the buzzer sounded.
This game was tight throughout, as M-E relied on outside sharp-shooting in the first half (four 3-pointers) while Rage pounded the ball inside to its big men. In the second half, though, Rage shut down M-E's perimeter game, so Gallagher began to drive, with success, scoring 16 of his 24 after intermission.
