On Saturday morning, Binghamton Blue went over to the Endicott Boys & Girls Club to play the Endicott-6 squad, the same club that beat Binghamton over the holiday break, 51-19. This time, it was a different story.
Binghamton came to play this time. With just a few minutes left in the contest, Blue had battled back from an 11-point third-quarter deficit and trailed just 38-34 before Endicott pulled away for a 50-35 victory.
Binghamton brought defensive intensity in the first quarter, leading Endicott at one point, 10-7, a far cry from the first quarter in December, when Endicott sprinted out to a 13-2 lead after one period, and a 24-6 edge at the half. While Binghamton Blue's offense sputtered in the second quarter on Saturday, the defense was solid, and Endicott led 18-12 at the break.
In the third quarter, Endicott looked to pull away, leading at one point, 32-21. But Blue wouldn't go away this time. Led by Nicky Snyder's guts-on-the-floor aggressive defense, Binghamton clawed back. Andre Hawkins scored one bucket and Sarbast Doski added two field goals to trim the lead to 34-27 to end the third quarter.
Hawkins scored to start the fourth (34-29), and he followed a couple trips down the court later with a 3-point field goal to trim the Endicott advantage to 36-32, forcing an Endicott timeout.
Endicott scored again, but Binghamton's Nathan Oliva grabbed an inside rebound and got a quick put-back underneath to make it 38-34. But over the final 3 minutes, Endicott simply had more gas left, securing the win.
Doski fouled out in the fourth quarter, and Binghamton was without the services of Nate Gaster (flu) for the second straight contest.
