Shooting woes hurt 4/5 squad against CV 5/6

The Binghamton 4/5 team played Chenango Valley 5/6 Tuesday night at Roosevelt in a rematch of a game played in December, a game CV won easily, 47-21. This time, with the size help of Nathan Gaster, Nathan Oliva and Nick Snyder (with permission from the CV coaches) and a steady rotation of 13 players, Binghamton trailed CV early in the third quarter just 28-22 before Valley pulled away for a 50-31 win.

CV started fast, building a 16-6 lead after the first, but Binghamton battled back in the second on inside baskets by Suehaidee Masso, Austin Becker-Harris, Nate Oliva, and two rebound/putbacks by Patrick Goodman to end the second quarter trailing 26-18.

Binghamton collected 55 rebounds in the contest, many off the offensive glass, but inside shooting trouble hurt the Binghamton squad, as they could not convert on many of those rebound opportunities. Binghamton 4/5 also went 1-for-12 at the free throw line (CV was 2-for-8).

"The 4/5 squad is playing at a much higher level of intensity its last few times out, and the team's overall aggressive play is evident," said Stephen Jensen, who is bench-coaching the 4/5 team the rest of this season. "They're playing up, in most cases, and against much larger competition, but every game, from every player, we're seeing increments of improvement, which is great. The kids are playing hard, and that's all you can ask for."
