Binghamton Teams Get Wins on Saturday

The Binghamton 5-6 White and Binghamton 3-4 Red teams opened their regular season schedules with wins Saturday. Binghamton 5-6 White went on the road and beat a very good Norwich team in a nail-biter, 38-35. Binghamton 3-4 Red played against Chenango Valley Red at the Johnson City YMCA and came away with a 46-18 victory.

Binghamton White 38, Norwich 35
Binghamton played a sloppy first 12 minutes of the contest, but thanks to Kyeem Holmes' three baskets in the first quarter, trailed just 7-6 after one period. Binghamton trailed 12-8, with Nate Gaster on the bench, having picked up his third foul just seconds into the second quarter.

But about midway through the second, Gaster returned and he and Latrell McFarlane combined to score all 11 of Binghamton's points in the period. Binghamton scored the last 7 points of the first half to lead 17-14 at intermission. Norwich went just 2-for-13 from the foul line in the first half (4-for-19 in the game).

Binghamton built a 27-22 lead toward the end of the third quarter on a Gaster inside field goal, followed by a Yosef Baker offensive rebound and put-back. But Norwich wasn't finished, as they got it back to 27-26 to end the third.

McFarlane opened the fourth-quarter scoring, Gaster made one of two free throws and Holmes made two straight inside shots (the second a 3-point conversion on a free throw) and Binghamton led 35-30 before another Gaster inside bucket put it at 37-30.
