Binghamton Travel: Teams go 3-1 over weekend

Binghamton 3-4 Red beat a very tall team from Chenango Forks Friday night, 37-32, at Calvin Coolidge. Binghamton Red built a 22-4 first-quarter lead, then cruised to the victory.

On Saturday morning, the Binghamton 5-6 White team got a win over Susquehanna Valley-6. Later in the day, Binghamton White lost to a very good Johnson City team, which is seeded in the league's highest bracket.

Also on Saturday, the Binghamton 5-6 Blue team went to the Norwich YMCA and beat Norwich, 34-15.

Binghamton Red 37, C. Forks 32

Binghamton Blue 34, Norwich 15
Binghamton 5-6 Blue overcame a slow start to run away with a road victory Saturday, beating Norwich at the Norwich YMCA, 34-15. Coach Mike Robinson said his team faced a 6-0 deficit after less than two minutes of play, so he made wholesale lineup changes. "My starters got the message," Robinson said. Trailing 8-6 ater the first quarter, Binghamton outscored Norwich 26-7 the rest of the way.

Binghamton used the inside muscle of Suehaidee Masso and Khalil Mathias (who combined for 20 rebounds) to build a lead and extend it, but according to Coach Robinson, Casey Walsh was the game's MVP.

"He ran the show," Robinson said. "The defense was outstanding and he only picked up two fouls while playing about 75 percent of the game. He showed a lot of leadership for a 10-year-old boy."

The Binghamton 5-6 White team built a 12-0 lead, then extended it to 22-2, before cruising to a win over Susquehanna Valley-6 early Saturday morning.

Johnson City 69, Binghamton White 42
Binghamton held an 8-5 first-quarter lead against a strong JC-6 squad, then trailed just 24-18 at the half. However, Binghamton's defense broke down in the second half as JC ran away with this one.
