Binghamton Blue 39, Whitney Point 18
Binghamton 5-6 Blue built a 14-4 first-quarter lead and never looked back in the team's 39-18 victory Saturday at the Johnson City YMCA.
Khalil Mathias and Kameron Crimmins provided a strong inside-outside combination early on to build the initial lead, but the scrappy Whitney Point team wouldn't go away. Point's solid defense, combined with sloppy play from Binghamton Blue, which did not score in the second quarter, allowed Point to creep back to within 14-8 at halftime.
Blue emerged strong in the third quarter, though, pulling away to a 26-14 lead heading into the final 8 minutes of play. In the fourth, Gabriel Whiteman, a third-grader playing for the 5-6 team, made steals on three successive Whitney Point possessions, helping Blue build its lead to 32-14. Binghamton closed the game with a 7-2 run for the final margin.
